Frequently asked questions
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is a first-person shooter from Infinity Ward and Activision, rated PEGI 18. It combines a cinematic single-player campaign with the multiplayer mayhem that the series is famous for. New for this entry is DMZ - a paid extraction mode where you loot, complete objectives, and try to escape before you’re killed in action.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 released on Friday, 23 October 2026 for PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S and PC. Vault Edition owners got Campaign Early Access a week before that - from Friday, 16 October 2026. This gave you the opportunity to get stuck into the story ahead of the rest of the world!
Modern Warfare 4 launched on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, PC (Steam, Battle.net and the XBOX app) and Nintendo Switch 2.
Please note that PS4 and XBOX One support has been dropped for this release. So if you want to play, you’ll need to get your hands on a new console.
Before the game released on 23 October 2026 Modern Warfare 4 was available to pre-order at Currys for PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S and PC. Pre-order the Standard Edition and you automatically paid £62.99, saving 10% off the £69.99 RRP. No codes needed for this - it was applied at checkout.
Physical pre-orders also came with the Currys-exclusive steelbook. You can’t find this anywhere else!
There are two editions.
The Standard Edition includes the complete game and is available physically or digitally.
The Vault Edition is digital only and adds operator skins, weapon blueprints, a full Battle Pass season with BlackCell, in-game currency, and Campaign Early Access from Friday, 16 October 2026.
Both editions include Early Access to the Open Beta.
The Hunter Killer Operator Skin is a pre-order bonus that gives your in-game operator an exclusive look in multiplayer. One important note: the Hunter Killer Skin applies to digital pre-orders only and isn’t included with physical copies.
The Currys-exclusive steelbook is a premium collectible packaging version of the physical Standard Edition. It’s only available when you pre-order at Currys - you won’t find it anywhere else. It’s a great price too - £62.99 with the automatic pre-order discount.
If you’ve played any mainline Call of Duty title from 2019 onwards on the same account, you qualify for a 10% loyalty discount on the Vault Edition - down from £99.99 to £89.99.
The discount applies to the digital Vault Edition only, and doesn’t carry over to physical copies, post-launch upgrades, or accounts that have only played Warzone. You need a paid mainline CoD title from 2019 onward on your account to be eligible.
DMZ is an extraction-style mode where you drop into a map, loot gear, complete objectives and then race to extract before you’re eliminated - keeping only what you successfully get out with. Think of it as the most nerve-shredding game of pick-up-and-run you’ll ever play!
In Modern Warfare 4, DMZ is part of the main game you purchase, rather than an extra mode you get for free. You don’t need to download it separately or pay anything extra beyond the price of the game.
The single-player campaign can be played without a subscription. But online multiplayer modes (including DMZ), require an active PlayStation Plus subscription on PlayStation 5, or Game Pass Essential (or higher) on XBOX Series X|S.
Yes, Modern Warfare 4 is a simultaneous launch on PC alongside PlayStation 5 and XBOX Series X|S. It’ll be available on Friday, 23 October 2026 through Steam, Battle.net and the XBOX app. A Nintendo Switch 2 version is also confirmed for launch, with pre-orders opening from Wednesday, 26 August 2026.
Warzone is Call of Duty’s free-to-play battle royale. It’s a separate game from Modern Warfare 4 that you don’t need to buy to access. The two games let you keep your achievements and items, so anything you unlock in Modern Warfare 4 will also be available in your Warzone matches. Think of them as two different games that work really well together.
